23 unusual life hacks to try now

Who doesn't like a good life hack?

Some are simply ridiculous but others can be really helpful. I'm sharing 23 life hacks I've personally used to make my life easier.

  1. Use a sock to clean your blinds. Blinds are notoriously difficult to clean, but a sock can help you get into those hard-to-reach areas and remove dust and grime. To do this, you have to slip a sock over your hand, and then use the sole of the foot to wipe down each slat.

  2. Place a few drops of essential oil on a cotton ball and place it in your vacuum cleaner bag to freshen up your home as you clean. I love this hack and I like to get a large boxset of essential oils and alternate each time I clean.

  3. Use a binder clip to organize your cables and prevent them from getting tangled. This is cheaper than buying a cable organizer, and you can use different sizes for different types of cables.

  4. Freeze grapes or berries to use as ice cubes in your drinks. Fruit like grapes or berries will provide a nice flavor to your beverages while keeping them cool.

  5. Put a piece of cardboard or plastic wrap underneath your cutting board to keep it in place while you chop. It doesn't have to be anything fancy—just something that will keep the board from slipping.

  6. Place a piece of chalk in your toolbox to prevent rust. Did you know that the calcium carbonate in chalk absorbs moisture and prevents rust? This way you can be sure that your tools stay in good condition.

  7. Use magnets to store small items like screws, bolts, and nails. Magnets can help you keep these items organised and accessible, so you won't have to hunt for them in a drawer.

  8. Use a rubber band to keep your clothes from slipping off the hanger. To do this, you have to place the rubber band around the hanger and then slip the item of clothing onto it. This will make sure that your clothes stay in their place.

  9. Place a wooden spoon over a pot of boiling water to prevent it from boiling over. I know this sounds like an old wives' tale, but it really works! The wooden spoon will disrupt the surface tension and prevent the water from bubbling over.

  10. Use a shower cap to cover your plant to protect it from frost. To do this, you have to drape the shower cap over your plant and then secure it with a rubber band. This will help protect the leaves from the cold temperatures. This only works for small plants though.

  11. Place a piece of bread in a container of cookies to keep them soft. Did you ever think about using bread to keep cookies soft? It may sound strange, but it really works! The moisture from the bread will help keep the cookies moist and delicious for a longer time.

  12. If you want to save some money on expensive makeup removers, use coconut oil for skin and hair as a natural makeup remover. Simply apply it to a cotton pad and gently wipe away makeup. Coconut oil is also great for moisturizing your skin.

  13. Apply a small amount of lip balm to your cuticles to keep them moisturized. This is actually a good way to keep your cuticles hydrated and prevent them from cracking.

  14. Place a teaspoon in the freezer for a few minutes and then use it to massage your under-eye area to reduce puffiness. This is a great hack if you wake up with puffy eyes and don't have time to wait for a tea bag to work its magic.

  15. Use a lint roller to remove pet hair from your carpets and furniture. This hack is especially useful if you have pets that shed a lot like cats and dogs.

  16. Hang a chalkboard or whiteboard inside your closet to remember which garments you have worn for the week. This is great for getting the most out of your wardrobe. You can also use it to plan what you're going to wear for the week and make sure that you don't wear the same thing twice.

  17. Use an old pool noodle to organize your scarves and necklaces. All you have to do is drill a few holes in the noodle and then use it to hang your items. This will keep them from getting tangled and help you find what need fast.

  18. Use the Pomodoro technique to improve your productivity. Set a timer for 25 minutes, work on a task without distractions, take a 5-minute break, and then repeat.

  19. Use the 2-minute rule. If a task takes less than 2 minutes, do it immediately instead of adding it to your to-do list.

  20. Use a standing desk to reduce the negative effects of sitting for prolonged periods of time. This is a good hack for those working from home but even at the office, it can help your posture and reduce back pains.

  21. Use a dryer sheet to clean your baseboards. Rub it along the baseboard to remove dust and dirt.

  22. Use a mixture of dish soap and water to clean your makeup brushes. To do this, mix a tablespoon of dish soap with 2 cups of warm water and then soak your brushes for about 10 minutes. Rinse them well and then air dry.

  23. Use a lemon to clean and freshen up your microwave. Cut a lemon in half, place it in a microwave-safe bowl with some water, and microwave it for a few minutes. The steam will loosen up any stuck-on food, making it easy to wipe clean.

Bottom line

The thing to takeaway is that there are many simple life hacks, which can help you save time and money. All it takes is a bit of creativity and experimentation to find what works best for you.
